A Day of Impact: ICANDCSW Visits Mampong School for the Deaf in Ghana

ICANDCSW had the privilege of visiting the Mampong Senior High Technical School for the Deaf in Ghana, an institution that serves more than 600 remarkable students with hearing and speech impairments. This visit forms part of our ongoing partnership under the MostDeaf Foundation-ICANDCSW Memorandum of Understanding, aimed at expanding learning, creativity, and community support for underserved student groups.

Representing ICANDCSW, Executive Program Manager Stephen Oppong Osei Tutu spent the day engaging with students, teachers, and program facilitators across several activity centers on campus. The atmosphere was filled with energy and creativity from the moment he arrived.

The students participated in a wide range of hands-on learning experiences, including:

  • Art and creative drawing workshops

  • Cooking and food preparation sessions

  • Bead-making and craft activities

  • Introductory graphic design lessons

  • Photography and camera operation demonstrations

Each activity revealed extraordinary talent and enthusiasm. Students communicated through sign language, expressive gestures, and warm smiles, proving that connection goes far beyond spoken words. Their confidence, creativity, and joy were truly inspiring.

Throughout the visit, Stephen also took time to learn and practice Ghanaian Sign Language, building stronger communication with the students and deepening cultural understanding.

Although she could not be physically present, Dr. Enchante Franklin, Executive Director of ICANDCSW, provided her full support and leadership throughout the event, ensuring the partnership and the goals behind the visit were fully realized.

This experience reaffirmed ICANDCSW’s commitment to creating meaningful, culturally rich opportunities for learning, empowerment, and global service. We remain dedicated to supporting students across Ghana and within all our partner communities as part of our mission to uplift marginalized groups and expand access to educational and creative resources. Click here to watch a short highlight video capturing these inspiring moments.
