ICANDCSW Maternal Health Initiative:
A Deeper Understanding of Maternal Health/Mental Care in Ghana and Tanzania

The ICANDCSW Maternal Health Program, initiated in Fall 2024, is a pioneering effort led by two esteemed faculty members. This program aims to enhance maternal health practices and address social justice issues related to maternal care in Ghana and Tanzania.

The Maternal Health Initiative brings together a diverse team of healthcare providers, professionals, and students. This interdisciplinary approach allows participants to gain valuable insights into maternal health practices while fostering cross-cultural exchange. Participants not only learn about local healthcare practices but also share their knowledge and experiences from the United States.

We invite you to join us in this meaningful initiative. Your contribution, whether through active participation or the provision of resources for hospitals, clinics, and communities, is invaluable. Together, we can make a difference in maternal health care and social justice issues impacting mothers in Ghana and Tanzania.

ICANDCSW is proud to announce its upcoming partnership with University Hospital and community clinics, aimed at addressing the critical social justice issue of maternal and new-born survival in around the world. We invite students from social work, public health, nursing, business, engineering and medical schools to join our collaborative efforts and embark on a transformative journey to Ghana and Tanzania.

Partnership Objectives:

1. Develop and implement culturally sensitive health education programs and workshops.
2. Mobilize resources and funds to support essential healthcare infrastructure at University Hospital and Community clinics.
3. Foster dynamic collaborations between students, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders.
4. Promote social justice, health equity, and human rights for marginalized communities.

  • Develop cultural competency and nuanced understanding of local contexts.

  • Contribute to meaningful change and improve health outcomes for mothers and new-borns in Ghana.

Together, we can drive sustainable impact and create a brighter future for generations to come.
